There are some great videos on YouTube or even Google Video that can be used in the classroom. A web-based solution that allows you to download a YouTube video to use in your classroom is available from Vixey.net. Simply copy and paste the URL from the video and select the format you want. The web site will do the rest. A software solution for a Macintosh is TubeSock.

There are 2 great videos to describe what Web 2.0 is as well as others once you are at YouTube that talk about World 1.0. Is there a World 2.0 coming? Who would be the creators of something like that? Is World 1.0 surviving or is it just an economic model? Will World 2.0 be a shift in power where strong and economically powerful countries will no longer be that way as other countries will have re-invented themselves? Questions to think about in this rapid age of change and flattening.
Gcast is a site that offers just such a service. You can use a phone to record your podcasts. The site is free and run by the folks who run garageband.com. What would happen if students could record their homework from the cell phone in their pocket?
Will Richardson just posted about his help in setting up 21Classes. I think this may be just the tool we want to use here with students as the cost per month is reasonable although it is free if you allow Google Ads. Check it out and let me know what you think. 21Classes.com
While at MacWorld in January I was interviewed by Chris Walsh of The Infinite Thinking Machine Podcast/Blog. I deposited $561.00 into the DA UNITE Club account after Grant S. had his very successful Basketball Free Throw Contest. Each year the Preschool has a Penny Campaign and this year again they have raised funds for UNITE which total $740.00. I will go there tomorrow to accept the “check”.
Through the sale of bracelets, coffee, lunches and recycling here at DA and at Triangle Day School we have raised a total of $2114.25 so far this year. I hope we can add shelving to the library we built at Nyabubale although we are also working on a project to bring computers and Internet to the Kibale Region with a company called Inveneo that has done other projects in Uganda.

Del.icio.us is a site that will allow you tag or apply a keyword that organizes your bookmarks. For instance, if you tag bookmarks with Education, all will be organized under this tag or meta data. Further, you can share your tags/bookmarks with others which is where the social comes in. My delicious bookmarks are at: http://del.icio.us/kschaefer. You can see what I have tagged. You can set up and account and use this system to share bookmarks for your students instead of giving them a handout or a long URL to type in. Set up tags based on folders or topics that you teach.
